In 1976, the Losada family, with Mr. Rafael Losada de la Fuente and Mrs. Agustina Santamaría Ortega at the helm, along with their children’s unconditional help and support, acquire a building inaugurated not many months before for let, exploitation and the right to purchase, which several other business prospectors had already tried to exploit before, without much success. This building is to be found in the town of Haro, next to the N- 124 Road, opened recently with the aim of bypassing the town.
The situation and needs of the time led the promoter and former owner to build an establishment with ample parking, not in vain – the original property has a surface area of over 4.300 square metres, and a building made up of a basement, ground floor, and two more floors with a total constructed surface of 1.480 square metres. It was originally conceived as a 2-Star Hostel, with 24 bedrooms, cafeteria and restaurant.
Effort, hard work, and good working practice by the Losada family, converted the Ciudad de Haro Hotel (previously the Iturrimurri Hotel) into an unavoidable reference and exceptional witness to countless meetings and family, public and private functions, with the role and contribution of the Hotel always being clearly evident at all these functions, actively and unselfishly contributing to the development of the region.
In 1979, a business platform denominated T.I.C. (Tourist Initiative Centre) was created on a local level, of which Mr. Rafael Losada was the Chairman. It was conceived to promote tourism through the carrying out of popular functions, open-air celebrations, children’s games, food-tasting and competitions … directed towards increasing the recreational activities available, which at that time were quite inadequate. In addition to laying solid bases on which other groups have been inspired, these groups, in the same way as the Losada family, saw the promotion of tourism as a source of real wealth.
The attainment of Prizes of recognised international prestige such as the International Tourism and Hotel Trade Trophy received in Madrid in 1982, the Great International Gastronomy Insignia Chain received in Paris in 1985, or the International Gastronomic Quality and Good Service Prize obtained in Mexico in 1989. These prizes, among others, without doubt and insofar as they correspond, have contributed to the international projection of the town and the region of La Rioja in general.
The organisation and capture of all kinds of attractive events for the city, such as Classic Car Rallies or the "City of Haro International Hot-Air Balloon Regatta” which this year celebrates its 6th edition, and which has already organized an edition of a “King’s Cup”. - Support and sponsorship of other sports, such as local football through its "Haro Deportivo" team or “Jarrero” basketball team, and sponsoring the town’s local team, “Ciudad de Haro Basketball Club”, which was promoted in its first year of support.
With the incorporation of Mr. Eduardo Losada into the Management in 1999, the company quickly evolves and begins work on three extensions, becoming a modern 4* establishment with magnificent modern facilities, in addition to the professional services at the client’s disposal. The company begins its expansion into neighbouring provinces with the acquisition of the Ciudad de Medina Hotel in Medina de Pomar, Burgos.
In 2004, HRH King Juan Carlos I honoured our establishment by his visit to relax in the “Royal Suite”, creating a close collaboration link with the Royal Family.
In short, the Ciudad de Haro Hotel and the Losada family come together to offer you exquisite service and to make your stay as pleasurable as possible.
