Hacienda
Zorita is a beautiful wine hotel in the Duero Valley 10Km from
Salamanca. This is the first wine state hacienda in
the group Haciendas de España, located
in a buiolding dating from 1328, it is now a charming and luxury
place. They really have managed to get the old hacienda
spirit, a comfortable place to share and enjoy gastronomy,
art, tranquillity and nature accompanied by good wine. Besides
the five star hotel, there is also a private chapel, a nature
reserve and an aging cellar prepared for wine related activities
including guided visits and wine tasting.
Hacienda
Zorita dates from 1345 and was founded by an early order of
Dominican monks. Doña Inés de Limoges donated
the house and mill of Zorita to Saint Stephens Monastery, which
was governed by the preaching friars of the Dominican order.
Even in those days it was a prosperous Hacienda, which consisted
of vineyards, and baking houses. Records show that in 1485 the
Hacienda hosted its most famous visitor, Christopher Columbus
who, stayed here before setting sail on his discovery of America.
In 2001, Haciendas de España started its restauration
designed by the well-known Spanish architect Peridis, respecting
the original characteristics of the noble architecture of Salamanca.
Primarily intended for the careful ageing of certain Durius
wines but also to serve as a sophisticated wine visitor centre
and base for people wishing to discover the wines and other
cultural aspects of the region.
