Avgvstvs
Forvm
Cellers
AVGVSTVS FORVM is a little winery with a lot
of history, located in the Penedés wine
region (Tarragona, Spain). When they first planted
their vines back in 1983, they discovered what
it used to be the old roman road between Rome
and Cádiz: the Via Avgvsta, which nowadays
gives the name to their company and their vinegars:
Avgvstvs and Forvm.
The wineries AVGVSTVS FORVM are located near
the village of Sant Vicenç de Calders,
in the municipality of El Vendrell, the capital
of Baix Penedés region. They are a family-owned
business but opened mind to the global market
and its new tendencies. Along their short history
they have specialized in limited productions
of high quality wines and bittersweet gourmet
vinegars which nowadays they export over 30
countries. Their vinegars have inspired well
known chefs to elaborate their exquisite dishes,
such as Ferran Adrià, Carme Ruscalleda,
Sergi Arola, Jean Louis Neichel or as an ingredient
of the Nobel Prizes ceremony menu.
History
and philosophy
Waiting
to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors,
a property named Òles Devesesó
was acquired in the early 80s in the village
of St. Vicenç de Calders, in the locality
of El Vendrell, in the Baix Penedés (Taragona).
At the end of that decade, after having transformed
the entire property into vineyards, and with
the hope and conviction of attaining a personalized
product of high quality, the laborious process
of setting up infrastructures was initiated.
At the same time they have been elaborating
a bittersweet vinegars with the name of Forvm.
Their objective is,and always will be, to operate
with the instinct of a small producer.
Vineyards
Soil
tends to be calcareous, with a rather
gritty
texture and with a certain amount of stones.
At Les Deveses estate, it can be said that they
have their own microclimate, since they are
3 kilometers from the sea, which has a significant
bearing on them.
The
high temperatures during the the day and the
afternoon and evening breezes enable them to
reach a high degree of maturation with very
good vigour. Such noble variety grapes as Merlot,
Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay
have adapted perfectly to our microclimate and
soil.
Visits
The
winery can be visited form Monday to Sunday.
Although usually no booking is required, it
is recommended to call in advance, specially
for groups.
