Vineyards
are beautiful in this time of year, making it the perfect time to enjoy
an active weekend in 
Rioja,
biking through the vineyards, visiting wineries and having a wonderful
picnic in the countryside. The route is 30 Km (18 miles), and it
is not difficult, anybody without physical limitations can do it.
You will bike through the vines, enjoy the wonderful views offered
by the castle of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, get nearby the side
of the Ebro river, get to know the small Riojan wine towns, old
stone lagares or lakes where our ancestors made their wine
before the XV century. You will visit two family wineries where
you will be guided through the process and secrets of wine making,
from the grape to the bottle.

de la Sonsierra (8km, 5 miles). Visit old stone lagares
or lakes
11h30’ Arrival to San Vicente.
Visit the castle and the Cofradía de la Vera_Cruz (los Picaos)
12h00’ Winery visit with wine
tasting
13h30’ Leave to Baños
de Ebro (8km, 5 miles). Continue until you reach Villabuena (3km)
14h30 Lunch stop in Villabuena
15h30’ Depart to Samaniego (4Km,
2 miles). Continue to Ábalos (4km, 2 miles)
17h00’ Arrive to Ábalos.

THE HOTEL VILLA DE ABALOS
Hotel
Villa de Abalos is located in a town dedicated to winemaking and with
a very important wine tradition, between Haro and Laguardia in the
heart of La Rioja Alta, surrounded by endless vineyards. This small
family hotel opened in 2002, and it is the result of major refurbishing
work done on a noble house from the XVII century. The historical flavour
of the original building has been respected and every attention has
been paid to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible. The
treatment and service here are extraordinary, both professional and
personalized and the rooms are spacious, comfortable and well decorated.
The owners, Merche and Jose Luis, are extremely nice and you can count
on them to make every traveller feel at home.
