This
is a very popular restaurant among the winemakers, and it
is supposed to serve some of the best lechazo in
the Ribera del Duero. Lechazo is the baby lamb roasted in
a wood fired oven typical from Castilla. There are no menus
here since lamb is the specialty and the only dish. The usual
order is a quarter for two. You can start with some black
sausage and some cheese from the area, but the main dish is
the lechazo and salad (although they made us an omelet once
for a vegetarian friend). The lamb is so tender that you can
eat it with your hands, no need for a knife. If you want dessert
you can try cream stuffed fillo dough, also typical from this
area. The wine menu just has Riberas, but plenty to choose
from.
The
Cristobal family has been running this restaurant for more
than 100 years, 8 of them in its actual location. The dining
area is large with big windows overlooking the Duero river,
in one of the walls you can see the oven nicely covered with
tiles. The walls are decorated with plenty of pictures of
famous people. The Cristobal family is wonderful, and really
nice, always trying to make you feel at home.
