Enate is a very special winery located the Somontano region of northern Spain. This is the foothills area south of the Pyrenees. It is a modern winery with and artistic flare. Their labels have been designed by famous painters. Their wines are also modern, with unusual varieties and innovative names that make Enate wines difficult to forget. It is a different visit, with excellent wines in a beautiful area of the Pyrenees.

Enate´s goal is the production of high quality Somontano wines. The winery is located in SALAS BAJAS (Huesca), 9 Km away from Barbastro the capital of Somontano, within the Somontano Denomination of Origin area. The total area of vineyards in the D.O. stands at 4.000 hectares, distributed in 43 villages. The total harvest in Somontano was more than 24.600.000 Kg of grapes in 2004.

Enate owns 400 hectares of vineyards, and they also buy grapes to farmers from other 230 hectares. All the grapes are hand picked. They use ecological treatments in viticulture. Grape varieties grown here are the red Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Tempranillo, and the white Chardonnay and Geürztraminer. 85% of the grapes are used for the production of red wines, 5% for rose, and 10% for white wines. Enate does not produce young red wines. Aging is done in French and American oak barrels.
The modern facilities of the winery occupy over 12.000 m2. The ageing area is something to highlight in this winery because of it´s beauty, the barrel room can hold 4000 barrels, (70% French oak and 30% of American oak), and the bottle cemetery that is large enough to keep 4 millions bottles.

ENATE defines itself as a winery for the 21st century. An aseptic and functional residence for wine, which has got nothing to do with the dark subterranean image that has mould and humidity as its main characteristics. Installations are drawn with geometric precision. On them are repeated straights and corners, to ignore curve lines that are only permitted on barrels. The winery is laid out with geometric precision. Its design repeats a rhythm of straight lines and edges and ignores any curved line. They are exclusively reserved for the barrels in which the wine ages. Jesus Manzanares, the architect has instantly captured the intense luminosity of the area and has transformed it into the spacious interior in such a way that you always retain the sensation of being outside. In this building this might be the best example of the play between nature and architecture.

They have a clear bet for Art EnArte (ENATE). Starting from the modern and vanguardist instalations of the winery, all the Enate´s manifestations are closely related to art. The elaboration of wines and the relation sought with art was initiated in a practically simultaneous way. Art and wine. Each bottle of ENATE is a tribute to Contemporary art. A solid and resolute support to the art world. The winery uses a Contemporary language.
Some of the best Spanish painters have collaborated in the design or their labels: Antonio Saura, Eduardo Chillida, José Beulas, Salvador Victoria, Antoni Tàpies, Frederic Amat o Joseph Mª Subirachs, and many more. Enate owns an important collection, that has being used in expositions from many Spanish capitals. The artistic patrimony of ENATE grows with the acquisition of works by the old masters and by young artists who have participated in the Enate Award.
