Open
in the summer of 2003, the restaurant is located in the cellar
that the Paternina winery owns in Ollauri, close to Haro, the
wine capital of Rioja. This cellar with amazing caves can be visited
by appointment if you are going to have a meal in the restaurant.
The restaurant offers delicious food where traditional Riojan
dished share the menu with modern and innovative specialties.
The
cellar “Conde de los Andes”, in Ollauri was founded
in 1896. It has some of the best caves (40 m deep) excavated in
rock, with the oldest ones dating from the end of XVI century.
The constant temperature and humidity of these caves makes them
perfect for the aging of Reservas and Grand Reservas. It has a
capacity for almost four million bottles. The wines of Paternina
are made in the Haro winery and the cellars in Ollauri are only
used for aging.
The
restaurant “El Conde” is located in this building.
The interior stands out because of the geometry of the wood beams
that hold the roof and the different space levels that create
independent spaces.
The
idea was to the restore the building so its artistic value will
be preserved, especially the inside to keep the restaurant reflecting
the cellar from its foundation. When you come in the restaurant
you can see the large wooden vats from the dining area.
They
have a high quality gastronomic offer. You can find both modern
and Riojan traditional dishes in the menu. They also have a seasonal
tasting menu and offer wine paired meals. The wine list is extensive
giving special importance to Paternina wines. And we cannot forget
to recommend the desserts that are especially delicious. As for
the it is moderate, you can have a very nice meal with wine and
dessert for 40 euros per person, tax included.
