This new and impressive Wine Culture Museum was inaugurated in June 2004 by the King of Spain. The remarkable building includes five exhibition rooms, the Foundation’s Documentation Centre, Conference Hall, Wine Tasting room for courses, Restaurant, Café and Shop.

The Dinastia Vivanco Museum of the Culture of Wine is the culmination of the Vivanco family's dream, the fruit of their passion for wine and all that surrounds it. The museum is situated in the heart of the vineyards adjacent to their Bodega in Briones, a unique and historic location in the Rioja Alta, on the outskirts of Sierra Cantabria.

The museum occupies a surface space of 9000 m2 where the permanent exhibition rooms and temporary exhibition rooms are located. The Museum shows the culture of vines, the harvest, the wine making techniques and the tasks performed in the cellar through a major collection of ethnographic items, for wine requires special instruments for its correct elaboration and enjoyment… A valuable collection of archaeological and artistic objects evokes the important role of wine in the religious rituals of various different cultures and in the inspiration that artists have found in this drink over the centuries. The history of how wine is served is discovered through objects from different eras and an extraordinary collection of corkscrews. In addition, outside, visitors can visit a collection in which varieties of vines from Spain and from the rest of the world are represented. Next to the museum we can find the collection of grape vines from around the world, car park, various garden spaces, a children’s play area, and extensive vineyards; all surrounded by a typical Riojan landscape. It also has a Department of Education and Cultural Action (students, families, children).

The purpose of the Dinastia Vivanco Foundation is to investigate and spread the customs of vine growing and enology, as well as the rich cultural and historical legacy that wine has given us through so many centuries.
