Private Tapas Tours In Madrid

There are two "Madrids": the one you can’t help but see, and the one you need a local person to show you. We’d like to invite you to enjoy the experience of "ir de tapas", as madrileños do. A tapas tour in the best way to discover the city.
Our tapas tours has been featured in the Wall Street Journal on April 16th, 2010.

We offer two different tapas tours: Traditional tapas in the historic part of Madrid or creative tapas tour in the trendy Retiro neighborhood. For dinner or lunch.
We also have group tapas tours offered by our partners Gourmet Madrid.
You will discover hidden spots, even in the very heart of Madrid, each of which has something special to offer, a typical dish, a specific type of wine or its atmosphere.

Get into the swing of things: go to a bar, enjoy your wine and tapa, and, once you’ve finished, move on to the next venue. It´s as simple as that!

1. Traditional tapas tour in the historic Madrid

The tour includes: Visit to three or four bars with tapas and wine or another drink. Enough for dinner or lunch.
Guided tour of the area where you will learn about some of Madrid’s most characteristic places.
Duration: The tour is approximately 2h 30min. Recommended from 13.00-15.30h or 19.30 – 22.00h.
Price: The price depends on the number of people in the party.

Be ready to stand in bars, drinking slowly but surely and sampling a variety of tapas and wines which, although originally from different Spanish regions, have found their place in the melting pot that is Madrid. By the end of the evening you will have discovered the key to wine and gastronomy (some of it is for the fearless only!) and heard many anecdotes of 17th century Madrid, along whose streets we will stroll.

These are some of the bars we may go: There is a dark bohemian tavern where they only serve sherry, the world-famous "generous" wine from Andalusia, their land and wine are closely related to the origin of the word tapas to refer to small portions of food... some of which we will, of course, enjoy. However, the tradition of having food to go with your wine (and not the other way around) is much older. We'll acquaint ourselves with the history of this custom in an old style Castilian tavern, surrounded by painted tiles and huge blackboards showing the names of dozens of wines sold by the glass and the daily tapas available. We´ll taste Iberico ham and cheese. The next tavern found their recipe for success a hundred years ago serving garlic shrimp cooked on the spot and served with vermouth or wine. They haven’t changed it a bit in the time being. And finally we will finish in a typical "Madrid tavern". Hidden, cozy, warm, roguish and immortal, like all those places that feature in novels, but rarely in the tourist guides.

Someone said that to be a madrileño you just need to spend the night in Madrid and enjoy the streets more than your home. We offer you the freedom of the city. And its drinks. And its dishes.

2. Creative tapas and innovative cuisine

The heart of the madrilian cuisine might be in the centre but the thinking BRAIN, the wit, the inspiration, is not there. Off the tourist path, on the eastern shore of the Retiro Park, there is a neighbourhood boasting with the hidden gems of Madrid's so called gastrotaverns.
This area exhibits the best tapas, the broadest range of wines and innovative cuisine per square meter in the whole city. This is thanks to the restless creative young chefs who, tired of working for someone else at some of Madrid's most famous restaurants, have been starting their restaurant/bars here in the past 8 years.
